WHEN FIBER “GOES INTO RESERVE” THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN MYNET AND THE CC BIODIVERSITY DEPARTMENT TO CONNECT BOSCO FONTANA IS UNDERWAY

The intervention was carried out in full respect of the forest ecosystem
The operator becomes a technical sponsor of the park that once belonged to the Gonzagas
Marmirolo, May 6, 2024. A fiber optic installation ‘on tiptoe’ and in compliance with the ecosystem of the Bosco Fontana Nature Reserve. This is how the partnership between Mynet, a leading operator in ultra-fast connectivity, and the Verona Carabinieri Biodiversity Department, which manages the Marmirolo park, came to fruition.
“After a preparatory period of analysis and design, the actual work of tracing and installing the network infrastructure followed, which was recently concluded – explains Giovanni Zorzoni, general manager of Mynet - To minimize the impact of the intervention, which takes place in a protected area, we limited the new excavations as much as possible, which were managed directly by workers from the department, using the existing channels for the automation of the entrance gate. We then used rodent-proof pipes: one of the main threats to buried fiber cables is precisely that of mice that gnaw the fiber strands until they break, interrupting the service. In usual contexts, traps are placed, but since it is in a nature reserve, we opted for these specific pipes that are much more resistant”.
This is in order to bring ultra-fast connectivity to the Gonzaga building where the Bosco Fontana National Biodiversity Center is now located, allowing wifi connectivity even in the monumental rooms of the building.
“The Bosco Fontana CNCB – says Marshal Gianfrancesco D'Ambrosio, commander of the ‘Bosco Fontana’ CNB - is a real research center with scientific and consultative functions on forest habitats and in particular on entomofauna. Our activity sees us at the service of the network of Natural Reserves managed by the Carabinieri, but also in collaboration with numerous other organizations and research institutes. Having a high-performance and wireless connectivity service, also available to specialists for database management and functionality, is of great importance for the operations of the center, also in light of the significant increase in remote meetings in videoconference mode, a fundamental communication tool for carrying out our specific institutional activities”.
To celebrate the milestone achieved, Mynet, in collaboration with the Carabinieri Biodiversity Department, organized two visits to the reserve for its employees: “a full immersion, with the qualified support of the scientific personnel working in the Reserve, to discover the history, architecture, and naturalistic peculiarities of this precious natural oasis” concludes Zorzoni.
