INCREASINGLY DIGITISED AND EFFICIENT RESCUE AND ASSISTANCE

New partnership signed between Garda Volunteers and Mynet

Salò, 19 September 2024. Mynet, a leading company in ultra-fast fibre optic connectivity, and Gruppo Volontari del Garda - a true unicum at a national level in the rescue and emergency sector - are teaming up to optimise a service that has already team up to optimise a service that has already achieved excellence.
An agreement that was presented this morning at the association's headquarters by GVG president Elia Samuelli, who will lead the organisation from 2023, and Mynet managing director Luca Legittimo.

Mynet will provide free connectivity to the headquarters in Via Enrico Fermi in Salò for the next two years, with a significant increase in speed to 1 Gbit per second (the previous speed was
100 Mbit per second).

‘The possibility of making use of superfast connectivity in our daily operations, both for emergency situations and for planned interventions, is an extra security that allows us to carry out our delicate work with more serenity,’ explained President Samuelli. ’An ultra-fast, stable and secure connection puts us in a position to provide a faster remote assistance service and clearer contact with the user, and to have clearer telephone lines without interruptions. Last but not least, it represents goodbye to annoying bandwidth problems when sending documentation by e-mail to the relevant bodies, faster navigation on the institutional sites necessary for our activities, and an increasing use of cloud services to which, until now, we did not have access, allowing us to have a more functional and redundant IT system’.

‘As in companies, the use of new technologies is a must for us, and with them the evolution of our entire IT system. Being able to take advantage of a fibre optic connection directly within our premises is a fundamental element in being able to stay abreast of new technologies and to be able to increasingly improve our activities in the service of the territory,’ added the association's IT manager Armando Zanotti. ’Having a local partner like Mynet with whom we can dialogue directly without going through call centres is extremely important.

‘We proudly support this historic reality of the Third Sector, and we are proud to be increasingly present in the Brescia area, providing our support to organisations and associations that put themselves at the service of the community,’ commented Mynet administrator Legittimo.

The telecommunications company, which originated in Mantua and has taken root with its own infrastructure throughout northern Italy, began investing in Salò about ten years ago, laying a fibre optic backbone (the
central part of the telecommunications network, which can be likened to a backbone) on the Gardesana Occidentale, and later branching out into industrial districts and artisan areas. Today
Mynet is the only ICT operator that can boast its own ring network all around Lake Garda.

The Garda Volunteer Group, set up 40 years ago initially by a group of 12 young people with the aim of providing relief and assistance to the population, today operates primarily throughout the Gardesana bresciana and Valsabbia area, but also extends throughout the country in case of need. The GVG has become a multi-specialist organisation capable of operating and providing the necessary relief in health and disaster emergencies of any nature and in any situation and condition, operating daily from the deepest lake to the steepest mountain peaks, with over 200 active and operational volunteers.

Every day, H24, at least 40 volunteers are on duty with an operational commitment of about 320 hours, 30 interventions of various kinds and 1000 kilometres travelled.

The presentation of the new collaboration was also an opportunity to take stock of the 2023 activity: ‘Last year, our volunteers operating in the fixed headquarters in Salò and the Gargnano detachment, and in the mobile unit in Toscolano Maderno and Sirmione, active only during the summer months, carried out 2599 emergency medical interventions, assistance at 283 events, and 1826 scheduled transports. These are the data of the
health sector, but the interventions of the entire GVG including the fire-fighting sector, technical rescue and the diving unit resulted in a total of 6027 interventions. The activity is constantly growing, just look at the figures from 2024 to 31 August: our Emergency Ambulances performed 1938 interventions, we provided medical assistance to 248 events and 1437 scheduled transports throughout Italy and abroad. The fire-fighting and technical rescue sector carried out 124 assists at events or fire-fighting surveillance as well as various interventions during disasters, the diving team was busy for months searching for Chiara Lindl on Lake Iseo, bringing a total of 4966 interventions as of 31 August,' summarised Samuelli.
