TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMPANY MYNET LAUNCHES WORLD'S FIRST 50G PON TECHNOLOGY FOR MICRO-ENTERPRISES

TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMPANY MYNET LAUNCHES WORLD'S FIRST 50G PON TECHNOLOGY FOR MICRO-ENTERPRISES
After being the first operator in Europe in 2022, Mynet sets a new record: first operator in the world to commercially launch 50G PON fibre, immediately available to micro-businesses in Milan City Life, Portello and the city of Mantua

After being the first operator in Europe to test, including with a live public test, 50G PON technology on a real network in 2022, and the first company in the world to carry out a speed test on the live Internet, Mynet marks another Italian record at a global level: the commercial launch of 50G PON technology, the world's most advanced ultra-high-performance connectivity in its finally ‘production ready’ trimodal version, i.e. one that also supports the current 2.5G and 10G technologies at the same time.

The telecommunications operator specialising in fibre-optic connectivity, which was founded in Mantua 30 years ago and has become a leading TelCo player in Northern Italy, is thus bringing the new technology out of the laboratories, with an offer for micro-enterprises with extreme bandwidth and low latency requirements, which will be available in the Milan City Life and Portello districts and in the city of Mantua.

‘After the success of the trial, we decided to push the boundaries of connectivity by being the first to launch this technology in the world. Italian micro-enterprises can no longer be left behind the big international players: with 50G PON, Mynet offers them connectivity that is superior to any other option on the market,’ says Giovanni Zorzoni, General Manager of Mynet.

Mynet's world-first 50G PON technology allows for three simultaneous transmission capacities on the same fibre (50G symmetrical, 10G symmetrical and 2.5/1G asymmetrical), and is the only one that can be used to upgrade pre-existing FTTH networks, not changing all existing customers with 10G and 2.5G speeds.

‘This technology opens up unprecedented scenarios for companies, public authorities and network operators, guaranteeing next-generation connectivity without the need to intervene on existing fibre-optic infrastructures,’ explains Zorzoni. ’The 50G PON represents a turning point for realities that manage large volumes of data, exploit cloud computing on a large scale, and require real-time business backup. But for us there is something more: not only the prestige of being a global pioneer, but also yet another demonstration that a medium-sized company can make a difference by offering superior networks that redefine the standards of speed and reliability.

The objective of the company, which over the years has continued to invest heavily in research and development of new technological solutions, is to progressively extend the service to the entire proprietary network, i.e. to the more than 32,000 kilometres of infrastructure owned by the company, which are spread across Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige and Emilia Romagna.

Why is the offer dedicated to micro enterprises?

‘The micro-business market is a vast one, little noticed by large operators, but crucial for the Italian economy and society. Disproving the prejudice that would have them resistant to change, many micro enterprises are focusing precisely on digital transformation, for now mainly by moving to the cloud. But the availability of a very high and symmetrical speed to the Internet, with the optimisation of traffic ensured by our company towards national and international cloud providers, also makes possible those applications promised by 5G at the time, and betrayed by the unwillingness of the large mobile operators, to realise a ‘true’ 5G millimetre wave, which requires significant investments that have not materialised. In its roll-out phase, the deployment of any technology runs up against a limited availability of equipment and resources. Mynet, mindful of its own entrepreneurial history ‘from below’, and in keeping with its vision of corporate social responsibility, has therefore chosen to start supplying services on the 50G network with an offer intended, under particularly favourable conditions, precisely for micro-businesses ready to bet on the digital transition'.

MYNET AND THE 50G PON TECHNOLOGY
Mynet, back in 2022, was the only European operator to have tested this technology on a real network, outside the laboratory, even carrying out a speed test on the Internet, in real time, in front of a press conference of journalists, inside the university university of Mantua.
