MANTUA IS THE FIRST CITY IN THE WORLD TO HAVE THE HYPERFAST 50G PON TECHNOLOGY
MANTUA IS THE FIRST CITY IN THE WORLD TO HAVE THE HYPERFAST 50G PON TECHNOLOGY
Mynet is Italy's speed capital.
After winning the European record as the first operator to publicly test the 50G PON technology on a real network, with a live demonstration on December 22, 2022 at the University of Mantua in collaboration with the Faculty of Computer Engineering and the Municipality of Mantua, Mynet now marks another record: the first commercial launch of this cutting-edge technology in Italy, making it available throughout the Virgilian capital.
The 50G PON represents the world's state of the art in terms of ultrafast connectivity in its first production ready trimodal version, capable of simultaneously supporting also the current 2.5G and 10G technologies.
Unprecedented performance: up to 25 Gbps symmetrical
Thanks to the 50G PON, Mynet offers connections of up to 25 Gbps download and upload, which is 20 times faster than the most widely deployed technology today. This is a digital revolution that opens the door to new technological scenarios, significantly accelerating data transmission times.
To put it in perspective, it's like going from the traditional rail network to high speed: with the same fiber-optic infrastructure, data transfer speeds are tripled, cutting down digital distances just as high speed reduced physical distances between cities like Milan, Florence, Rome and Naples. Sending and receiving large files, such as entire digital libraries or ultra-high resolution video, become instantaneous, drastically reducing waiting times and optimizing workflow for businesses and professionals.
From lab to reality: the 50G PON is now available to enterprises
With this step, Mynet is taking the technology of the future out of the lab, making it available to microenterprises with extreme bandwidth and ultra-low latency needs. The service is active throughout the city of Mantua and will soon be available in Milan's City Life and Portello districts.
Mynet's goal is clear: to progressively extend 50G PON throughout its proprietary network, an infrastructure of more than 32,000 km of fiber optics that runs through Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige and Emilia-Romagna.
The future of ultra-performant connectivity is already here. And Mynet is at the forefront of driving it.
“After the success of the trial, we decided to push the boundaries of connectivity, being the first in the world to launch this technology,” says Giovanni Zorzoni, General Manager of Mynet. ”With the 50G PON, Italian microenterprises can embrace the cloud or even create it at home, letting anyone connect to their business resources, without any slightest slowdown, with the best connectivity available on the world market today.
Focus on microenterprises: a strategic choice
In the initial phase, the new technology will be reserved for microenterprises, businesses with up to 10 employees and 2 million in revenue, due to a specific business choice.
“This is a large segment, little considered by large operators, but crucial for the Italian economy,” Zorzoni continues. ”Contrary to the cliché that would have them resistant to change, many microenterprises are investing in digital transformation, taking advantage of the cloud and looking for high-performance solutions for data management.
With the 50G PON, Mynet offers them unprecedented connectivity, optimized for traffic with domestic and international cloud providers, and enabling applications promised-but never realized-by 5G. The big mobile operators missed the 5G millimeter wave, which would have required serious investments that never materialized.
In addition, as is the case with any technology rollout, the availability of equipment and resources is initially limited. We at Mynet, true to our 'bottom-up' entrepreneurial history, have chosen to start with microenterprises, offering them the 50G PON on particularly favorable terms, to reward those who bet on the digital transition.”
50G PON: technological revolution without infrastructure changes
Mynet brings 50G PON to the real world, providing next-generation connectivity without the need for massive interventions on the existing fiber optics, but only working on technological upgrades at the points of signal emission.
“This technology opens up never-before-seen scenarios for companies, public entities and network operators, offering ultra-performant connectivity without requiring new infrastructure investments,” adds Zorzoni. ”For realities that manage huge volumes of data, leverage large-scale cloud computing and need real-time enterprise backups, 50G PON is a game changer. But for us, it's more than that: it's not just about being a global pioneer, it's about proving that a midsize company can make a difference by offering superior networks capable of redefining standards of speed and reliability.”
“On behalf of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, I want to declare my appreciation for the result achieved by MyNet in the commercial launch of the 50G PON technology demonstrated for the first time worldwide in these very spaces,” says Dario Stabili, lecturer in Cybersecurity at UniMore, ”This is a significant step in the Mantua area's commitment to digital innovation, and, as a lecturer for the course in Computer Engineering offered by Unimore here, I can only welcome with interest the evolution of the local technological context, hoping that it will offer new opportunities for collaboration between academia and industrial realities.”
“As UniverMantova Foundation, we are happy to host Mynet in our Aula Magna in which for several years girls and boys have been graduating in one of the most innovative computer engineering courses nationwide - is the comment of Luisa Lavagnini, General Coordinator UniverMantova Foundation - Strongly oriented to innovation in the fields of cybersecurity and autonomous robotization, the course provided by Unimore isarticularly attractive as demonstrated by the strong increase in enrollment. In addition,” Lavagnini concludes, ”Mynet is also an important partner for the foundation because of its commitment to young people and the university."
“The Municipality of Mantua,” adds Councillor for University and Research, Innovation and Smart City Adriana Nepote, ”is proud to celebrate a historic milestone for our city. With the launch of the 50G PON by Mynet, Mantua establishes itself as the first city in the world to have ultrafast connectivity of this magnitude, an achievement that positions us at the forefront of the global technological landscape. Mynet is a reality of excellence in our territory, an important partner that has always demonstrated a constant commitment to innovation and technological development. Our collaboration with Mynet since 2022 has enabled us to implement ambitious projects and pursue initiatives that have a significant impact on our community. We are extremely pleased with this achievement, which allows us to be a key player in a digital revolution. The ultrafast connectivity offered by the 50G PON will not only improve the quality of life of our citizens, but will also provide essential support to local businesses, especially microenterprises, which will benefit from unprecedented connectivity. This project is an example of how public-private collaboration can generate extraordinary results and contribute to the economic and technological development of our area.”
