SUPER-FAST FIBER OPTICS ARRIVES IN CANNETO SULL'OGLIO AND ITS DISTRICTS

CANNETO SULL’OGLIO (MANTUA) – From now on, surfing the web will be easy and fast even in Canneto sull’Oglio and its hamlets. This is guaranteed by Mayor Nicolò Ficicchia together with Mynet, the contractor company that has recently started work in the town center.

Located just a handful of kilometers from the province of Cremona, the territory of Canneto in these weeks will see an initial phase of interventions with excavations along the streets affected by the asphalt plan and the laying of new optical cables necessary for the connection to the ultra-wide band of all municipal buildings; among these, the municipal headquarters in Piazza Matteotti, the theater, the library, the museum, the middle and elementary schools in Via Dante Alighieri and the nursery school in Via Europa. The same infrastructure will also power a widespread and innovative video surveillance network throughout the municipal territory that will connect the roundabout of Via Roma, Piazza Eroi e Martiri, the intersection between the SS 343 and Via Tazzoli, the Piazzale FF.SS., the cemetery with Via IV Novembre, Via Garibaldi with the sports field, the Carabinieri Station in Viale Europa, the playground of Via Aporti, the sports center of Via Marconi, the intersection between the SS 343, Via Pieve and Via Marconi and that between the same SS 343 and Via Da Vinci, the photovoltaic park, the ecological island, and finally the intersection between Via Garibaldi and Via Pertini. As for the hamlets of Runate, Carzaghetto and Bizzolano, here Mynet will work on a new infrastructural extension with excavations and laying of new pipes also aimed at implementing future video surveillance systems.

The project, which was born with the aim of limiting as much as possible the tampering with roads and sidewalks and, consequently, the inconvenience for citizens and the productive fabric, will be carried out by using innovative low-impact excavation methods. The works will in fact be conducted, where possible, using the no-dig technique, which identifies a series of systems that allow pipes and underground infrastructures to be installed using robotic machines, thus avoiding open-air excavations.

The overall value of the intervention is 290,000 euros, which, thanks to regional contributions intercepted by the Administration, will not weigh on the coffers of the municipal body.

"What is taking shape in Canneto is a project that we care a lot about because we believe that infrastructures - always the weak link in our territory - are fundamental for recovery and above all determine the level of competitiveness of a territory. In our era, digital infrastructures are even more important, which allow the entire community, and in particular companies and citizens, to be truly efficient by being able to take advantage of more services, otherwise inaccessible". Thus Mayor Ficicchia, who emphasizes the totally new aspect of the fiber optic project for Canneto. «A project – continues the mayor – that even the experts define as innovative because it sees the complete integration between the infrastructure owned by the Municipality and that of the private operator, in this case Mynet, which will therefore also be able to address domestic users with decidedly competitive offers. A development policy in which the Municipality takes charge of overcoming an objective and penalizing infrastructural gap by accelerating the community's innovation process, ensuring the best accessibility to all public services and giving new opportunities to families and businesses».

The digital heritage resulting from the intervention will remain the property of the Municipality and will have infinite purposes, starting with the creation of a true smart city, what Ficicchia likes to define «the “ideal city” in version 2.0: the network designed and commissioned by the institution in fact plans not only to unite all the municipal offices, but also to touch the video-surveillance areas and the entrances to the town, including those located in the hamlets. In this way - adds the Mayor - we will be able to connect all the existing cameras up to the borders of the municipal territory, implementing through optical fiber what had already been achieved. Over time, it will be possible to connect any type of technological device to this infrastructure. A project, therefore, that could see subsequent and further expansions, but which above all will concern the entire municipal territory, increasing the connectivity not only of the capital but also of the hamlets".

Another advantage of the Mynet-branded infrastructure in Canneto consists in the upcoming activation, within the WiFi4EU community tender, of a series of access points in all the strategic locations of the territory, with the aim of increasing the connection opportunities for the inhabitants of the town: served by powerful and high-performance fiber connections, 12 new external and internal hot spots will be turned on in as many locations among the most frequented, such as the central Piazza del Comune and the “Enzo Favalli” library.
